What gets into an AC unit in Ubud
Less dust than the coast, far more biology. Damp air plus organic matter blown in from the rice fields and river valleys gives mould something to grow on, and it takes hold on the fan barrel and drain pan before it is visible on the filter. The smell arrives well before the cooling drops off, which is the opposite of how a dusty coastal unit fails.
How often, and what the visit covers
Every four months is a sensible baseline, and closer to three through the wet season. The visit covers the indoor coil, filters, fan barrel and drain pan, and the outdoor unit. In Ubud the drain line matters as much as the coil: if the pan cannot empty, the mould comes straight back however well the coil is cleaned.
