A failed capacitor is one of the most common AC faults in Bali and one of the cheapest to fix — provided it is actually the capacitor.

The order we check things in
The capacitor gives the fan and the compressor the push they need to start turning. When it weakens the motor still receives power but cannot break away, which is exactly why the classic symptom is a hum with no movement — and why a fan that starts if you nudge it and then runs normally is a capacitor almost every time. We measure it rather than swapping it on the strength of the symptom, because a seized fan bearing and a failing compressor can both produce the same hum, and replacing a healthy capacitor in front of either of those just wastes your money.
What you can check yourself first
You can note the behaviour, which genuinely speeds the visit up: does it hum? does the outdoor fan turn at all? does it start and then trip the breaker a minute later? All useful. What you should not do is open the outdoor unit — a capacitor holds a charge after the power is off and can injure you. Leave the unit switched off rather than repeatedly trying to start it. Diagnosis is Rp65,000, a replacement capacitor starts at Rp190,000 quoted before fitting, and the part carries 3 months.
