AC Not Turning On in Bali
A unit that shows nothing at all is usually a power or control problem rather than a dead machine — and the cheapest causes are also the most common.
Diagnosis
Why an AC will not switch on
- Tripped breaker or no power at the isolator
- Flat remote batteries or a failed remote
- Failed capacitor on the outdoor unit
- Control board, sensor or safety cut-out fault
We check the supply and the remote first, then the capacitor, then the board — in that order, because the first two cost you nothing to rule out.
The order we check things in
Nothing at all on the display is a different problem from a unit that runs badly, and it is worth saying so when you message, because the causes are almost entirely electrical and they rank clearly by likelihood. Power first: a tripped breaker, a switched-off isolator, or a socket that has failed. Then the remote, which fails far more often than the machine does. Then the capacitor on the outdoor unit — a hum with no start is the classic signature. Only after those do we look at the control board, the sensors and the safety cut-outs, because a board is the expensive answer and rarely the right one.
What you can check yourself first
Check the breaker and the isolator switch near the outdoor unit, then put fresh batteries in the remote and try again — between them those account for a large share of the calls we take for this. If the indoor unit responds to its manual power button but not the remote, the machine is fine and the remote is not. If the outdoor unit hums without starting, switch it off rather than leaving it trying; running a compressor that cannot start does real damage. Diagnosis on site is Rp65,000 and comes off the bill if you approve the repair.
